Installs 91 kW Solar PV System, Covers 100% of Electric Needs through Partnership with Solect Energy
JANUARY 5– Whitman, MA. -- Duval’s Pharmacy, a family-run pharmacy that has served Whitman Massachusetts since 1946, has partnered with Solect Energy of Hopkinton, MA to install a 91 kilowatt (kW) solar energy system on its roof. The solar array is expected to cover up to 100% of the company’s annual electricity use.
A family owned business, John Duval first considered going solar when his son brought it to his attention as a great way to save money while helping the environment. After researching the benefits further, the family agreed, and decided to pursue the project.
“Going solar has been such a great experience,” said John Duval, owner of Duval’s Pharmacy. “Solect has been a great company to work with, keeping us informed and directly involved through the whole process.”
Duval’s Pharmacy is projected to save a significant amount annually on its electricity bill, and is able to take advantage of state and federal tax and financial incentives, including SRECs (Solar Renewable Energy Certificates), which are financial incentives based on the amount of solar energy the system generates. Electrical utility providers in Massachusetts purchase SRECs to help them meet their state-mandated goals of a percentage of power coming from renewable energy sources.
Investing in solar energy has encouraged the Duval family to look into other green measures, to further their environmental impact. “Going solar just made sense for our business,” said Duval, “This project has encouraged us to look for other ways to keep the positive changes coming.”
“It’s always rewarding to help a small, local business save money and gain a competitive advantage by going solar,” said Brian Herr, Vice President of Business Development at Solect. “Working with Duval’s pharmacy was a great experience – we’re excited to see the ways their new array will positively impact their business.”
