Auto dealer installs 246 kW solar energy system with Solect Energy Development
WEBSTER, MA—May 5, 2015—Long Subaru, a family owned premier retailer of new and used Subaru vehicles serving central Massachusetts, has installed a 246 kilowatt (kW) solar energy system on the roof of its Webster showroom and body shop in partnership with Solect Energy Development. The system is expected to cover up to 100 percent of the company’s electricity usage, virtually eliminating the need for fossil fuel based energy consumption.
The Subaru culture is one of being environmentally friendly; producing low-emission, energy-efficient vehicles. Long Subaru has long been interested in reducing its carbon footprint, and the timing is perfect as May marks the annual ‘Go Green Event’ at the dealership which focuses on the benefits of Subaru’s certified Partial Zero Emission Vehicles (PZEV) and the XV Crosstrek Hybrid models.
“We are always looking for ways to reduce our environmental footprint,” said Scott Barry, Dealer Partner. “This is one major step forward. In focusing on renewable solar energy, we know that we are significantly reducing our impact on the earth, and that is definitely the right thing to do.”
In addition to the savings generated by off-setting electricity costs, Long Subaru is also able to take advantage of state and federal financial and tax incentives, including SRECs (Solar Renewable Energy Certificates), which solar system owners earn based on the amount of solar energy their system generates. SRECs are ultimately purchased by electrical utility providers in Massachusetts to help them meet their state-mandated goals of a percentage of power coming from renewable energy sources.
