"We’ve had a number of commercial tenants interested in purchasing solar energy over the years. After getting the insight into the process at the Glen Urquhart school, I realized it was a realistic project to pursue. We‘ve always worked to meet the needs of our clients and this particular install is absolutely going to help to do that."

Can you tell us a little bit about what your company/organization does?
We are a commercial real estate owner and developer who serves the needs of a variety of different clients and industries.
What prompted you to initially explore solar for your business?
I was involved in a solar project as a Trustee at my son’s school, Glen Urquhart in Beverly MA. Having an inside look at the process was a revelation. The project went very well, and Solect made a great impression with their work on the project from start to finish. I saw the advantages and incentives as almost a no-brainer, especially when coupled with the opportunity to produce our own renewable energy.
What were the main reasons you decided to install solar?
We’ve had a number of commercial tenants interested in purchasing solar energy over the years. After gaining insight into the process at the Glen Urquhart school, I realized it was a realistic project to pursue. We‘ve always worked to meet the needs of our clients and this particular install is absolutely going to help do that.
Why did you choose Solect as your solar partner?
As I mentioned earlier, I had gotten insight into Solect’s procedure and worked with Alex Keally on another project. It was a seamless process then, and this project was as well.
What were your energy costs before and then after installing solar?
We don’t have electricity costs per se, as those charges belong to our tenants. However, energy costs for our tenants are reduced through the installation and we expect that they take pride in participating in sustainable, green energy usage.
What has been the best part of your solar experience?
The management of mid-project issues. Solect took ownership of any problems and delivered timely, efficient solutions. I felt confident in the people managing the project throughout the entire process.
Do you have plans to install solar on additional properties?
We are considering it. The current concern is the refinement of the SREC program and how that will affect ROI for future projects. As the ROI changes and thins, the importance of choosing a professional solar designer/installer will become paramount.
How has installing solar encouraged your company to think “green” in other initiatives?
We’ve always tried to be a green developer or redeveloper through utilizing the Brownfield program here in Massachusetts. By utilizing the solar program under SREC-II we’ve realized that sustainable energy sources are not only good for the environment, but also good for your business partners (in our case our tenants) and finally, good for our bottom line.
What advice do you have for businesses and property owners who are considering solar?
Work with a full service, up-to-date organization that is well versed in the solar “machine” and the variables that inevitably come with any install.
